5 Video Interview Tips for Success

Employers’ interactions with job prospects have changed as a result of video chat platforms such as FaceTime, Teams, Zoom, Skype, and others.  Job seekers can find video interviews difficult. You may be self-conscious about how you appear or sound on camera, or you may be concerned that your connection will dissolve. Video calls can be awkward so we got 5 tips to help you prepare! Read on for video interview advice on how to put your best foot forward.

  • Check your connection

Reduce technical challenges by practicing with the same platform, internet connection, and hardware you’ll be utilizing for your interview ahead of time. Conduct a practice interview and take some time to make sure you understand the essentials, such as how to mute and unmute your microphone. Be sure to check

– Internet speed

– Battery life of your computer

– The audio

– The camera

  • Prepare like an in-person interview

You must still prepare in the same manner as if you were going to an office for this interview.  That entails doing your research on the company and the job, practicing common interview questions, and thinking of questions to ask your interviewer in return. Your interviewer is still searching for someone with whom they can imagine themselves working and who is enthusiastic about the position—show the interviewer why you are the best fit for the job!

  • Choose the correct setting

A proper environment is the most important but simple video interview guideline. Avoid loud shops and other common locations where you can’t control the background noise by conducting the interview in a quiet, private, and well-lit location. Also, pick a room with a clean backdrop!

  • Dress to impress

Even though you won’t be meeting with the interviewer in person, you should still dress appropriately for a video interview. Still dress professionally, head to toe, as if you were going to an in-person interview at the workplace.

Pro tip: Ensure that your outfit appears well on video. Put it on in front of the same screen that you’ll use during the interview!

  • Have a backup plan

Regardless of how many times you tested your Internet connection, technology fails us a lot. So, before you start a video interview, give the interviewer a phone number where they may reach you in case of technical difficulties!

Video call interviews are just the same as in-person interviews.  Make a great first impression! It’s critical to approach your video interview as if it were a conversation since that’s the only way you’ll be able to connect. Because you won’t have time to make small talk before or after the interview,  you need to establish rapport throughout it. Be yourself and be the most personable. You have the same goal in a video interview as you do in an in-person interview as a job seeker: to show that you’re the right person for the job!
